Description

Newberry Community School is seeking a dependable and energetic Panther PAWS Activity Leader to help create a fun, safe, and structured before- and after-school environment for students. This position involves planning activities, supervising participants, supporting student growth and development, and working collaboratively with staff, families, and volunteers to provide a positive program experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful experience working with children, preferred
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to relate to and work with students and adults in a positive manner
  • Ability to be flexible and perform the job with a minimum amount of supervision
  • Skill in the use of computer applications
  • General working knowledge of the School District
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to plan and organize effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement activities for participants
  • Monitor the health, welfare, and safety of participants
  • Assist in constructive supervision and utilization of aides and volunteers
  • Develop, submit, and implement monthly lesson plans appropriate to the developmental level of participants
  • Provide assistance to other personnel, as needed
  • Provide supervision of participants
  • Adhere to applicable safety standards
  • Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment
  • Attend all staff meetings and workshops
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to Board policies and department procedures
  • Communicate effectively with the public, staff members, students, parents, administrators, and other contacts using tact and good judgment
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and keep supervisor informed of unusual events
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities
  • Demonstrate support for the school district and its goals and priorities
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member
  • Follow attendance, punctuality, and proper dress rules
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school and workplace matters
  • Maintain expertise in assigned area
  • Manage time efficiently
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards
  • Participate in cross-training activities, as required
  • Participate successfully in training programs to increase skill and proficiency related to the assignment
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain updated and accurate records
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects

  • Salary and benefits are provided in accordance with the Board’s approved salary schedule.
