General Description:

The Program Supervisor will work under the direct supervision of the City of Newberry Parks Assistant Parks & Recreation Director. They will be involved in the organizing, planning, and direct supervision of recreational activities, recreational facilities, events of special nature, and other related programs. They will have direct oversight of all recreational staff, administration of youth programs, and all adult sports activities.

 

Essential Job Functions:

The essential job functions of the Programs Supervisor shall include, but not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Provide administrative direction and oversight for all programs, athletic events, special events, and/or services for community organizations. Supervise the control, issuance and maintenance of all facility events equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate facility event schedule with the Assistant Director, Admin Assist, Program Coordinators, Facilities Supervisor, and all other pertinent staff.
  • Supervise full time and part-time facility event employees, contracted vendors and event officials. The Programs Supervisor shall also share in the responsibility for hiring, evaluating, training, mentoring, disciplining, and terminating facility event staff, event vendors and event officials.
  • Plan, implement and promote programs, facility events, including the recruitment and supervision of media outlets, event vendors, as well as recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers and interns.
  • Maintain contact with clients and patrons via telephone or written correspondence.
  • Promote and coordinate with other organizations and associations as needed to implement programs, athletic events, special events, and/or services for community organizations.
  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment and supplies that apply to the facility events team.
  • Ensure that the programs, activities, facilities and equipment follow all appropriate safety rules and regulations.
 

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of various programs, special events, athletic events, public relations, facility safety, facility development, equipment safety, event contracts, City of Newberry Parks and Recreation policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, websites, social media and point of sales systems.
  • Ability to motivate and provide encouragement for participation in athletic and special events; implement multi-faceted events program; identify community event needs and recommending events to fulfill them; staffing and scheduling events; administer first aid for minor injuries and exercise sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
  • Ability to be detailed-oriented and organized to manage all aspects of an event. Written and verbal communication skills are important to interact with a variety of people ranging from clients, athletic associations, event officials, community organizers to event attendees.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines. Must be flexible and capable of multi-tasking since many of the actions required to manage an event must be arranged concurrently.
  • Ability to pass a standard background check, pass a physical exam and pass a standard drug screening.
  • Ability to maintain or acquire a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a certification in CPR and first aid.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university  or a minimum of two years’ experience in a related field or any equivalent of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Environment: Work is primarily preformed in an indoor environment, even though, there may be occasion for outdoor requirements; exposure to noise and dust.
