The City of Newberry is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Program Assistant to support recreation programs, youth activities, athletic leagues, camps, and community events. Working alongside the Recreation team, you'll help create safe, engaging, and enjoyable experiences for participants while supporting the day-to-day operations of City recreation programs and facilities.

Qualifications

Required

  •  Valid Florida Driver’s License or equivalent from another state

Preferred

  • Experience working with youth, recreation programs, camps, athletics, or customer service
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish
  • Ability to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL)

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of recreation programs, youth activities, athletic leagues, camps, and community events.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment while providing exceptional customer service to participants, families, coaches, officials, and the public.
  • Assist with facility operations, including event setup, equipment management, opening and closing duties, and maintaining clean, safe recreation spaces.
  • Complete program documentation, maintain records and inventories, and assist with the day-to-day administration of recreation programs.
  • Promote safe practices and support the successful operation of programs by working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, coaches, and community partners.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the Recreation Department.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This position requires frequent movement to support recreation programs, athletic activities, and community events. Employees should be comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments while performing a variety of physical tasks throughout the day.

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout recreation facilities and program areas.
  • Lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Assist with event setup, breakdown, and the preparation of recreation facilities and program spaces.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Visually observe program participants and surroundings to help maintain a safe environment.
