Newberry Community School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Media Specialist to plan and implement a dynamic media program that encourages learning through the use of books, digital resources, and emerging technologies. This role supports an educational environment that promotes the academic growth and overall development of students while ensuring alignment with district, state, and federal standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree from an approved accredited educational institution.
- Certified or qualified in accordance with Florida Statutes and State Board Rules.
- Meet Federal High Qualified Guidelines, as applicable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of child development, particularly the characteristics of students in the assigned age group
- Ability to select, organize, administer, and effectively use instructional media, equipment, and technology
- Ability to integrate library/media resources and services with the school’s instructional program
- Ability to assist students and staff in the effective use of media resources
- Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum and current educational research
- Knowledge of the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct
- Basic understanding and practical use of current technology
- Knowledge of diverse learning styles and ability to use varied instructional methods to support them
- Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness
- Ability to assess student achievement, analyze results, and implement improvement strategies
- Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment
- Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, and other stakeholders
- Knowledge of budgeting policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons that address the needs of all learners.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technologies to support student growth.
- Differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs, including ESE and ESOL students.
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
- Set clear expectations for behavior and use appropriate interventions aligned with school policies.
- Conduct regular formative and summative assessments to measure student progress.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments, assessments, and classroom performance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of grades, attendance, and student performance.
- Analyze student achievement data to identify trends, address gaps, and adjust instruction.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding academic progress, behavior, and concerns.
- Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, and administrators to improve instructional practices and outcomes.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional learning communities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences, professional trainings, and school events as required.
- Supervise students during non-classroom activities such as lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal, as assigned.
- Support extracurricular programs, field trips, clubs, or school activities as needed.
- Implement and adhere to all school, Board, state, and federal policies and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with Florida and Federal law.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support school operations.
Physical Requirements
- Light Work: Ability to exert up to 20 lbs. occasionally and up to 10 lbs. frequently to move objects, files, and materials.
- Must be able to sit, stand, use hands and fingers, reach, bend, and communicate effectively.
Terms of Employment
- Salary and benefits shall be set by the Board.
- 10-month position.
